ORL opens 10th house

We are opening our 10th House for single people who are homeless in Leicester.

This has been made possible by a local couple investing in a property for ORL to use on a long-term basis. Mary and Clive heard about One Roof Homes and decided to invest in a property to support our work. For the past few months they have been renovating the property, which has included upgrading the heating system, installing new electrics and damp proofing. Over the past couple of weeks One Roof volunteers have been helping to decorate and furnish the house.

“We wanted to do something positive and give back to the community so we decided to support a local charity. We see people living on the streets and we wanted to help in some way. When we read about One Roof Leicester’s work, especially how they house and support people we felt they were the ones we wanted to work with. We met with Salma who explained how the project works and decided to buy a property for them to use.”
Mary

We are extremely grateful to Clive and Mary for purchasing this property for us to use. It means that we can offer three more people a safe home and give them the support to move-on in their lives. We receive referrals for people who need somewhere safe to stay and all our current houses are full. When there is no other option we will use local hotels but this is expensive. Having another house means we can offer longer term accommodation and support to more people.

One Roof Homes gives people a room in a shared house from where they can rebuild their lives out of homelessness and work towards independent living. Each person is given one-to-one support from a support worker who helps them to access benefits, housing and employment.
