ORL Winter Night Shelter

A safe, welcoming space out from the cold

The Winter Night Shelter (WNS) project offers shelter and hospitality during the winter months to people that would otherwise be sleeping rough.

The shelter is a very open, welcoming environment where we treat the people who stay with us as our guests.

About the Winter Night Shelter (WNS)

The Winter Night Shelter (WNS) project offers shelter and hospitality during the winter months to people that would otherwise be sleeping rough. Every night from 1st December to 31st March up to 20 rough sleepers (guests) will be given a warm and a safe place to sleep. The winter night shelter works closely with other partners for referrals.  These referral agencies assess the suitability of their clients for the night shelter.

During their time on the shelter we will provide emergency accommodation and social interaction to individuals who are unable to access housing, benefits or support elsewhere. During their time with us, we aim to help them achieve more sustainable accommodation.

Community involvement

The WNS creates opportunities for the community to volunteer .

Volunteers from the local community support us every night at the shelter. Volunteers are vital in making the shelter safe and a success.

  • Volunteer shifts available:
    Early Evening Shift (8:00pm – 10:30pm)
We need 4 volunteers each night to help with setting up and welcoming guests.

  • Night Shift (10:30pm – 8:00am)
We need 2 volunteers each night to support guests in the morning and help tidy up.
