If you are ready to start looking for a job or go on training then it is important that you access the support and help that is right for you.
If you haven't worked for a while then you may need to consider retraining, new qualifications or spending some time volunteering. You may need help with applying for jobs but need to brush up on your employability skills i.e. help with writing a CV or application form and interview skills.
If you are living in a hostel, in temporary accommodation, a STAR resident or in supported/shared housing, then you will need to ask your support worker to refer you to Leicestershire Cares. They will provide you with employability skills, training and advice.
Apex Works offer one to one support to people looking for training or work this includes advice, guidance and support on education, training and employment. Basic skills classes and help with reading, writing, form filling, job applications, ESOL and computer skills. They also have access to free telephone and internet.
If you are not in one of the above types of accommodation then you will need to contact the job centre who will have a list of local schemes and training opportunities available.
Most job search now takes place on-line. If you do not have access to a computer then visit your local library where you can use the computers. This service is free to members (joining the library is free). For information about local library services and opening times see the Leicester Libraries website.
